DataSet COntact: Dr. George “Randy” Cutter
Description: This dataset contains images of rockfish (Sebastes spp.) near the seabed, that were collected by the Southwest Fisheries Science Center using a forward-oblique-looking high-resolution digital still camera on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV, specifications).
Most images were acquired in waters off southern California, USA.
purpose: These images are useful for rockfish species recognition.
Example imagery
Details: Thirteen species of rockfish are represented in these images. These are: Sebastes chlorostictus, Sebastes constellatus, Sebastes crocotulus,Sebastes ensifer, Sebastes hopkinsi, Sebastes levis, Sebastes miniatus, Sebastes moseri, Sebastes paucispinis, Sebastes rosaceus, Sebastes rubrivinctus, Sebastes semicinctus, and Sebastes wilsoni. Several high-quality images of each species are contained in species-specific subdirectories.
Individual data sets are password protected to prevent unauthorized download. Please email the chair to request access permissions.
